King's Daughters

Horse Program

The King’s Daughter Program was designed and founded by Alice Whitelock, from Camp Peniel, in Marble Falls Texas.  Mommy Al, as she is more fondly known, began the program as a tool to keep in contact with the many girls who made decisions during summer camp, and who needed encouragement in their spiritual growth after leaving Peniel.  This developed into a full-fledged program that hundreds of girls, even mothers and grandmothers are influenced by today.

The program is designed to develop the “whole person” in a girl… with light on the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual areas of her life.  She works to achieve the advancement of ranks by working on areas such as Bible reading, Bible memorization, handcraft projects, nature studies, sports, outdoor camping and other such activities.  The program goes through three levels, Maid, Duchess and Princess… and by the time she has reached the highest rank, she must, among other things, have read the entire Bible, memorized over 200 verses, including the entire chapters of Isaiah 53 and Romans 8, worked on at least 4 service projects, and researched assigned subjects.  Periodically, a special Honor Court is held for those girls who worked to achieve those ranks.  During this time, songs are sung, Scripture is quoted and the King’s Daughter has a chance to share some of the things she’s learned and to receive the award she has so worked for.

The K.D. program can be conducted both through personal contact between a leader or mother and a girl, through weekly club meetings, and through summer camps.  This not only meets the need of the Christian girl, but gives her an opportunity to interest her friends with a program designed just for girls, leading them to know the Lord Jesus Christ.

In our case, we offer a twice a month club, meeting at Camp Winchester.  In our clubs we help the girls progress in their ranks by teaching them a variety of skills. Some of these include: crosstitch, plastic canvassing, crochet, soap making, sewing, embroidery, decoupage, and painting.  Around noon, the girls are usually found in the kitchen preparing the lunch meal for all of us…. And these are not just a sandwich lunch, but quite involved menus.  We also have the chance at times to take part in canoeing, horseback riding, nature studies and swimming.  But of course our time together would not be complete if we do not come together for our Bible Study time.  Usually, then, we have a time of singing, Scripture Memory, Sword Drills and end with our Girls Bible Study.and tea time…  Right now as the older group, we are studying the book of Acts, learning what it takes to be an unstoppable disciple of Jesus;   while younger KDers are taking a walk with the Patriarchs of the Bible, using hands-on projects and visuals to guide their journey.

Both the KDers & the LilKDers meet every First and Third Tuesdays of the month.  Times run from 10 until 3 at Camp Winchester and Costs are $25 a month per child for two club meetings.  Pay-per time price is $15.  Lunch & craft supplies are provided.  Contact us for more information or if you plan on bringing your daughter(s).
