Since September, 2005, Hannah Seale and her sisters have been coaching 20 girls and boys in their singing. Meeting at Camp Winchester, twice a month, the kids are learning shape note singing (such as from the old school... Do-Re-Mi-Fa-Sol-La-Ti), singing in parts and harmonies, rhythm, blending, breathing, sight reading and some ear training. 

We are looking forward to when we will have a good part of our theory and shape notes down so that we can have some real fun with the old gospel songs and more parts!

This Fall and Christmas Season, We have been working on a Christmas Program, complete with script and costumes, where the kids will have a chance to learn new songs in which they learn up to three part harmonies, work on vocals in individual solos and in singing as a group.  This we are excited about and cannot wait till our performance on December 8, 2007.

Part of what we did in the couple of years past included a hymn program that we put together.   Each child took home a booklet of favorite hymns and a corresponding CD.  During our practices, we learned our harmonies and theory out of these books, and they also went home and worked on those same songs. These, they memorized and when they were able to sing them to an instructor, without help, they were able to move on to another.  At our end of the year recital, the kids received a certificate and Camp Winchester T-shirt, according to how many hymns they learned.  There is an old saying, "The hymns aren't great because they are old, but because they have stood the test of time."  There is no child who should  grow up not knowing the old hymns of the faith.

Costs are $20 for a first child, $10 for any children after that. This is for one month/2 practices.  We meet at Camp Winchester for 3:30pm until 5:00pm on the first and third Tuesdays of each month for children aged 6 - 15 yr.

This is not just for the ladies.. we'd love for some young men to join us this fall as well!! :)
